zarya is a 6'5" mountain of a woman with bright pink hair. she's extremely well built, due to her being a professional body builder before enlisting in the russian army; her personal deadlift record of 512kg is tattooed on her shoulder. more often than not, she can be found wearing her special kinetic armour which was made to help channel and amplify the power from her gravity gun. this glows when the gun is in use and collects energy.

most prominently, zarya is extremely dedicated to her country. she whole heartedly believes in the prosperity of the russian people and the leadership of katya. unfortunately, she's unaware of the russian leader's deals with omnics, something which is extremely controvertial because of the second omnic crisis currently occuring in russia.
zarya is a soldier through and through. despite the fact she started off as an athlete, she abandoned her position and promises of fame and glory immediately when she saw that the omnics were attacking her country again. she is also a very compassionate woman who vowed to use her great strength to ensure the protection of those who could not protect themselves against the omnic onslaught.
here is a timeline of the events in overwatch; zarya is part of the "second wave" of heroes - one that exists after the main war events and in the current day. she is not actually an overwatch agent or part of the recalled group, however she is deeply aware of the current existing agents and their role in shaping the world during the first omnic crisis. this is evident especially when she tells torbjorn in an in-game interaction, "the suffering of my people lies heavily on your shoulders." she also has hostile lines towards zenyatta, the omnic monk and genji. genji is especially perplexing, as he is an overwatch agent and not an omnic - he had been outfitted with cybernetic enhancements to save his life. zarya's distrust seems to cover any and all "living" machinery.
it's clear that despite her outward optimism, dedication and stalwart strenght, zarya is hurting deeply because of the suffering of her people and is willing to do anything she can to stop it.

zarya's main skillset lies in her immense strength. while she is super powered or in possession of enhancements (her strength is entirely trained), it is still that of a professional body builder. she has been trained how to use it in combat and won't hesitate to to neutralize a threat.
she is also trained in combat and proficient with heavy weaponry and futuristic technology which is a staple on the earth she comes from.
